AirDry combines hourly forecasts from MET Norway with your chosen load, spin setting, shade and wind exposure. No language model decides whether your washing should go outside.

What the model does

The model uses temperature and humidity to calculate a vapour-pressure-deficit proxy, adds a capped wind contribution, and accumulates estimated drying progress over consecutive forecast hours. Load and setup settings adjust the required progress. These coefficients are provisional, not a validated physical simulation of your clothes.

It rejects hours with at least 0.1 mm forecast rain, available rain probability of at least 30%, temperatures at or below 2°C, or wind above 40 km/h. These are cautious product rules, not universal physical thresholds. Missing required values, gaps and old forecasts prevent a positive result. Hourly precipitation probability is not available for every location.

What a range means

The displayed range uses a fixed modelling allowance around the central estimate. It is not a measured probability or guaranteed finish time. Your selected hours are availability settings, not a calculation of sunrise or sunset.

A forecast older than 12 hours is rejected. The planner fetches weather when you submit your choices, refresh, or return after a longer break. It does not currently monitor weather in the background or send rain alerts.

A full UK postcode uses that postcode’s coordinates, rather than the wider postcode district. The website shows the complete postcode to make this clear. Coordinates are rounded to three decimal places for the weather request.

Local conditions still matter

MET Norway’s global forecasts have approximately 9 km horizontal resolution outside its Nordic and Arctic priority areas. A forecast cannot resolve the exact wind or a small shower at your washing line. See the provider’s explanation .

Help check the estimates

The native apps include a laundry log for recording when you hang out a load and when it is dry. They are currently in testing. The website keeps things simple: choose a location and load to find a window. Older website logs can still be exported from the privacy page. Logs do not automatically train a shared model. We will need repeated field measurements across different conditions before claiming calibrated accuracy.

Weather data is from MET Norway , used under CC BY 4.0 . AirDry transforms it into its own estimates; MET Norway does not endorse those estimates.

Worldwide locations

Search cities around the world or use your current location. Choose the matching region and country; drying windows use that city’s local time zone, including daylight-saving changes. Device-location results use your device’s time-zone setting, so keep that setting current when travelling. The website chooses units automatically: for example °C and mph in the UK, °F and mph in the US, and °C and km/h in most other countries. For device location, the nearest bundled city provides a country hint for units only; borders may be approximate. If that lookup is unavailable, your browser region is used. Your actual coordinates still determine the forecast. The native apps retain their unit selector.

City names, alternate names, regions and time zones come from GeoNames , used under CC BY 4.0 . The bundled extract covers cities above 15,000 population and capitals, not every village. For a smaller place, use your location or search a nearby city. Exact UK postcode lookup remains available; global postal-code and street-address search are not included. The interface is currently in English.
